Homemade Flea Powder

This homemade flea powder can be applied to any furred or feathered friend. I use it to dose my chickens every few months and if the dog happens to walk by she gets a quick treatment too. I have a home dehydrator which I use to dry all my flowers but you can just pick the flowers and place in a sunny hot position for a few days.

1 cup dried pyrethrum flowers, dried and ground
1 cup talcum powder or Cornflour

Combine. Dust onto animals coat. Store in sealed dry container out of sunlight. It is best to make a small batch as it does not have a long shelf–life.

Lemon Air–Freshener

3 cups boiling water
1 cup scented geranium leaves (I use rose geranium)
dried rind of kaffir lime or orange
fresh leaves of lemon, lime or kaffir lime
4 lemon grass tea bags

Pour boiling water over other ingredients. Let cool and then strain and store in pump bottle. Squirt in air as needed avoiding soft furnishings as it may stain. Can also be added to potpourri or to floor washing bucket when you are wet mopping floors. Store in fridge.

Old Toothbrushes

There are many uses for discarded toothbrushes. Dip in kerosene to clean moving parts of bikes, mulchers, chainsaws and other machines. Dip in used moter oil and brush mower blades before and after use. If your chickens suffer from scaly legs dip toothbrush in cheap cooking oil or neem oil and apply to hens legs every week until legs recover.
