You can ditch your shampoo and clean your hair with baking soda and vinegar. Full details at http://frugalkiwi.co.nz/2010/04/diy-cle ... ternative/

My man goes completely no shampoo to good effect, but I think that works rather better with short hair than long lady hair!

Hey thanks for this. What a great idea i am going to try it as tired of spending all that money on expensive shampoos that just get washed down the drain. Might try squashing some lavender leaves and flowers into it for a nice smell.

You can infuse your vinegar with lavender, mint or other herbs for a nice smelling concoction.

The best way to start with no shampoo is right from the start. We have never used shampoo on our (7yo) boys hair (except once or twice when we were in the tropics and he got very sweaty). We have never needed to. It is always beautifully clean and shiny. Having never been stripped of it's natural oils by shampoo, his scalp never produces them to excess in an effort to compensate. His hair is longish, and it doesn't seem to matter. My partner and I are very low shampoo users too, using a bottle or two a year - the less you use, the less you need to. Saves us a fortune.
